Vicia faba
- Heirloom
- Meaty and hearty
- 6 to 14 days to germination
- 60 to 70 days to maturity
Broad Windsor beans are prolific yielders. Plants produce long 15-20 cm (6-8″) pods with 4-6 large, flat beans inside. This variety is also tolerant of frost, and has fragrant flowers.
18g. (Approx. 12-15 seeds)
Preparation Ideas: Remove beans from pods and rinse with water. Boil beans in water just until tender and drain. Fry desired amount of chopped bacon until browned. For enhanced taste, add chopped onion and garlic. Add beans to the bacon mixture and fry for 5 minutes to blend flavors, stirring frequently.
Instructions: Sow seeds when the soil is warm and all danger of frost is past. Plant 2 seeds every 4 inches. Soaking seeds overnight before planting will speed germination. Thin to 1 plant every 4 inches when the plants have 4 leaves. Pick early and often to encourage production. Sow every 2 weeks until 8 weeks before fall frost.
Pick when plump and cook like peas or Lima beans.
