Gardener’s Notes: Start seed indoors 4 weeks before the last spring frost, or sow directly outdoors when night temperatures reach 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius). Grow in fertile, well-drained soil. Sow 5-6 seeds in 12 inch wide hills. Thin to 3 seedlings per hill. Keep well-watered when flowers and fruit appear. Painted Serpent cukes can easily grow 15-20 inches long! Pick at 2 inch diameter for best quality. Harvest often to keep plants producing more cucumbers.
